Makeup Favorites: March 2016

This is really my first foray into makeup. In the past six months, I’ve gotten so into it, watching various YouTubers (From Head to Toe is my favorite, and the inspiration for making Makeup Favorites posts) and learning from the wonderful employees at Sephora. I feel confident enough to list off some of my favorites, so let’s go! Most of the links will take you to Sephora’s website, since that’s where I purchase 99% of my makeup.

Skin: Skincare is super important to me – always has been, even before getting into makeup. I’m blessed with pretty good skin, even when I’m lazy for a little while and don’t wash my face every day, but I’ve noticed a huge improvement since I started a real routine.

Dr. Dennis Gross All-in-One Cleanser with Toner – I LOVE this stuff. So easy to use, and I don’t have to buy toner separately. It really makes my skin feel soft. I have combination skin, I tend to get oily in the T-zone area. A lot of cleansers make my skin feel kind of dry, and don’t help with the oiliness since my skin is trying to make up for the dryness. Since I started using this daily, I don’t have any problems with excess oil during the day!

Belif: True Cream Aqua Bomb – I redeemed 100 points at Sephora for this when the cashier informed me that it was good for oily skin. I use different products at night (I’ll probably mention those next month), but in the morning I’m far too lazy to put four things on my face – I just wanna get out the door. This has been an absolute godsend. It’s a gel-cream texture, and I think my tiny little sample will last me awhile. A little bit really does go a long way!

First Aid Beauty: Anti-Redness Serum – I don’t have rosacea, but my cheeks do have a tendency to get kind of red. I hate it, because I feel like it makes me look like the fat and jolly stereotype (think Santa Claus). I bought this a couple of months ago, and in the beginning I didn’t use it daily, but since I started to (roughly one month ago), I’ve really noticed a difference! If you’ve got a little redness on your face, this will help you bunches.

Urban Decay: Anti-Aging Primer Potion – I hate it when my eyeshadow or eyeliner smudges during the day. It’s my least favorite thing. I’m out of the house for almost 12 hours on Thursdays because of class, and when I get home I want my makeup to look as close to how it did when I left the house as possible. This primer goes on smoothly and doesn’t feel heavy at all. The anti-aging is just a coincidence, I don’t really care too much about that part, but I guess it’s a perk.

Kat von D: Tattoo Liner – Time for a truth bomb, y’all. Liquid eyeliner is not as difficult as you might think. When I was a teenager, liquid eyeliner was impossible – it came in those little tubes, with a tiny brush, and took forever to dry. Now we have liquid eyeliner pens! Use them, love them. I still keep my eye shut for a little bit to let it dry, but it’s not nearly as long as it used to be. The thin brush makes it super easy to get a detailed, fine line. Winged eyeliner is not impossible, you just need the right product.

Urban Decay: Naked – I was so proud of myself when I finally bought this. I told myself I wouldn’t spend $50 on an eyeshadow palette until I knew that I would use it, and use it well. When I bought this, I felt like I knew what I was doing. The shades will complement any skin tone. I like using Gunmetal and Creep (silver and black, essentially) to make an everyday smokey eye look. Creep is especially good for setting a pencil liner, if that’s what you like using!

Bite Beauty: Butter Cream Lipstick – Confession: I always hated lipstick. For me, it always made my lips feel dry. I told a Sephora employee this, and she recommended I try this brand. I use the shade Pecan, since it’s a good natural shade for me. I’m in love with it. It stays for a good while, and makes my lips feel moisturized instead of dry.

Cargo Cosmetics: Essential Lip Gloss – Along with hating lipstick, I hated lip gloss because it always felt sticky to me. I got this in an Ipsy bag ages ago, and I didn’t like the shade (Anguilla) – it was this really light pink that made me look paler than I already am. Then I found the perfect use for it. I wear it on top of lipstick, just in the middle area of my lips to highlight. It looks awesome, doesn’t feel sticky, and has just the right amount of shine.

There are so many more products I could talk about. This barely touched my makeup routine, to be honest! I didn’t cover my foundation, powder, concealer, other skincare products, more eyeshadows…I’m always discovering new things (thanks to Birchbox and Ipsy), so come back next month for more reviews!
